FABF Website Admin / Thursday, January 9, 2025 / Categories: News & Events Social Security Update The White House announced that President Biden will sign the Social Security Fairness Act on Jan. 6 at 10 a.m. ET, repealing the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP), and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) laws that reduce or even eliminate Social Security benefits for millions of public service workers. The passage of this bill will not impact your pension with the Firemen’s Annuity and Benefit Fund. It may however lead to a reevaluation of Social Security benefits that were earned outside of your employment with the Chicago Fire Department. Guidance on the impact of the repeal should follow from the Social Security Administration which can be accessed through their website at SSA.Gov Online Services or at a local Social Security Administration Office.
