FABF Website Admin / Monday, November 3, 2025 / Categories: News & Events, Legislation Discontinuation of Third-Party Insurance Premium Deduction If you currently have a healthcare premium deduction for a health insurance policy that is not part of the Local 2 sponsored Aetna plan or the City sponsored Blue Cross Blue Shield group plan, effective as of January 1, 2026, the Fund will no longer deduct healthcare premiums for any healthcare plan other than the Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance plans. Under the federal SECURE 2.0 Act, the direct payment requirement was repealed. Retired public safety officers can now make the health insurance payment themselves and still qualify for the exclusion. This change is reflected in IRS guidance and draft publications for 2025 at www.IRS.gov. Members directly affected by this change will receive, or have received, notice from the Fund regarding this change in process. Members having premiums deducted for the Aetna group plan or the Blue Cross Blue Shield group plan are not affected.
