FABF Website Admin / Tuesday, January 13, 2026 / Categories: News & Events Announcement on Retro Payment Pension Contributions In addition to the benefits granted to members and spouses each month, the Board President and Secretary will also be presenting, for informational purposes only, items of interest that may affect our members. Questions regarding any member’s specific situation should be addressed directly to the Fund Office. The Retirement Board (“Board”) of the Firemen’s Annuity and Benefit Fund of Chicago (the “Fund”) was recently notified that the City of Chicago processed the retroactive checks owed to Fund members related to the most recent collective bargaining agreement between the City of Chicago and Chicago Fire Fighters Union, Local No. 2 (“Local 2”). The Board is aware that the City of Chicago may have failed to correctly deduct the required pension contributions out of certain retroactive checks paid to Fund members. Please note that the Fund has been unable to independently verify that information because the Fund has not yet received the payroll data from the City of Chicago related to the retroactive checks paid to members. Contrary to statements published by Local 2 representatives, the Fund has no authority over the deduction of pension contributions out of salary payments made to Fund members. That authority solely rests with the City of Chicago. While the Fund is committed to ensuring that all monies due and owing to the Fund are collected and remitted, the Fund has no involvement in the City of Chicago’s method of processing the pension deductions out of the retroactive checks paid to Fund members. The Board encourages Fund members to continue to work with Local 2 to address this issue directly with the City of Chicago. The Board understands that Local 2 has filed a grievance against the City of Chicago regarding the retroactive check. That grievance process may rectify the issue.
