Protect Yourself From Scams
Stay cautious of unsolicited calls, texts, emails, and social media messages. Criminals often spoof phone numbers and impersonate trusted organizations to appear legitimate. Let your voicemail handle unfamiliar calls—if the call is important, the caller will likely leave a message so you can verify the number and information before calling back. Scammers may use tactics such as unsolicited mobile messages, phishing emails, cold calls, fake websites, or messages through third-party social media or messaging apps to entice you to provide sensitive information.
The Fund does not conduct business through any third-party apps such as WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Telegram, WeChat, Instagram, or Facebook, and will never ask you to share sensitive information through social media, text messages, or third-party apps. If someone claims to represent the Fund on any of these platforms, the communication is not legitimate.
Do not share personal information—such as your phone number, email address, identification documents, bank details, or proof of address—with anyone whose identity you cannot confirm.
Fund staff may contact members by phone. If you receive an unsolicited call from someone claiming to be Fund staff and requesting sensitive information, verify who you are speaking with. If you feel unsure or pressured to provide personal details, hang up and call our main line directly at (312) 726-5823 to confirm the caller’s authenticity.
The Fund may also communicate with you by email. All legitimate emails from the Fund will come from an @fabf.org email address (for example, info@fabf.org or benefits@fabf.org). Do not provide sensitive personal information through unencrypted email.
Beginning in May, members who register through the ID.me identification process will be able to securely complete forms and send or receive sensitive information through our new encrypted, members-only portal. Please watch for future communications as this service becomes available.
